Rigid Soul are a Glasgow based band with an eclectic blues-rock sound. Although the blues is one of the bands heaviest influences, their original music features elements from a broad range of musical genres including jazz, rock ‘n’ roll and Latin music.
Their debut EP ‘Head In The Clouds’ was released in March 2018. The title tract of the EP featuring a 60’s styled arrangement with melodic blues-pop is a highlight so is the instrumental “Scott’s Boogie” with a tight and funky, fast-fingered groove. Solid and interesting mix of melodic-pop blues, blues rock and the occasional surprise highlight, such as their blues-rocked up cover of Black Sabbath's Fairies Wear Boots: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_4lWuub5e0
The band has underwent a number of line up changes with core members Kyle Hood (guitar and vocals) and Lewis Ross (drums) remaining constant. In late 2018, Liam Brown (bass) completed the official line up, allowing the band to focus on building a live repertoire and writing new original material.
Some of the bands highlight shows to date include support slots with Zal Cleminson of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Kyle Falconer of The View and Praying Mantis, as well as monthly residency gigs at Glasgow venue The Howlin’ Wolf. Whilst Rigid Soul are still virtual unknowns outside of Ayrshire, they are most certainly a band to keep an eye on.
