Rigid Soul are a young and dynamic Ayrshire based band with an eclectic, blues-rock sound.
Although the blues is an obvious influence and a featured style, Rigid Soul’s original music features elements from a broad range of genres including jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, melodic pop and Latin.
Rigid Soul’s debut EP ‘Head In The Clouds’ was released in March 2018.
The title track of the EP, featuring 60s styled melodic blues-pop, is a highlight as is the instrumental ‘Scott’s Boogie’ with its funky, fast-fingered groove.
Live, the band like to throw in something from left field, such as their must hear blues-rocked up covers of Black Sabbath songs, including Fairies Wear Boots: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_4lWuub5e0
Formed around core members Kyle Hood (guitar and vocals) and Lewis Ross (drums), bassist Liam Brown completed the line-up in 2018, allowing the band to focus on building their live repertoire and writing new, original material.
Highlights thus far for Rigid Soul include supporting Zal Cleminson’s Sin Dogs, Kyle Falconer of The View and Praying Mantis, as well as monthly residency gigs at Glasgow venue The Howlin’ Wolf.
Whilst Rigid Soul are still relatively unknown outside of Ayrshire and Glasgow, they are most certainly a band to keep an eye and ear on, and we are delighted to welcome them back to the Arran Rock N Blues Fest for 2020.
