The John Beattie Band

The John Beattie Band

Scottish broadcaster John Beattie, presenter of BBC Scotland’s news programme The Nine, is still well remembered for a rugby career that included 25 caps for his country and tours with the British & Irish Lions - but his passion for rugby was always matched, and now bettered, by his passion for guitars and rock music.

A huge fan of Angus Young and his guitar sound John has, over the last few years, been sighted and heard at many an event with his Ruck Stars band, playing classic rock covers (including an AC/DC song or two, of course!).
Although John’s first on stage appearance goes back to the mid-1980s with Gordon “Nobby” Clark (the original lead singer and co-founding member of the Bay City Rollers, curio lovers), it was the early 2000s and a Glasgow West End Festival appearance in a band featuring Wet Wet Wet’s drummer Tommy Cunningham and actor James MacPherson (of Taggart fame) that gave him the performing bug.

John will be hosting this year’s Arran Rock 'N' Blues Festival as well as showing off his recently formed band as opening act on the main stage on the Saturday.
Intrigued to hear the rock covers results?  So are we!
